Attractive large vintage mahogany glazed door bureau bookcase cabinet. A lovely vintage mahogany bureau bookcase. We date this bureau bookcase to the early 20th century. The bureau bookcase comes in two sections, the bookcase top and the bureau base. The bookcase top sits on dowels onto the bureau base. The bureau base sits on four square section legs with reeded detail. The top section is fitted with a small stepped cornice. The top bookcase section has two glazed doors glazed with glass panes held in wood glazing strips producing a pleasing geometric pattern. The right hand door is fitted with a working lock (key supplied). The left hand door is secured with a side mounted top and bottom lever bolts. The interior is fitted with three height adjustable wooden shelves which sit on metal pegs housed in a series of holes to the front and rear of the side panels. The base bureau consists of a drop front writing section above a bank of three graduated drawers. The drop front has a central panel veneered with well matched finely figured grain mahogany. The drop front has a working lock operated by the supplied key. The drop front is supported on wooden lopers which extend when the flap is lowered. The interior is fitted with a total of seven vertical pigeon holes, two small drawers and a lower wide pigeon hole. The drawers are fitted with small brass handles. The graduated drawers are fitted with pairs of decorative cast brass drop loop handles mounted on circular embossed brass backplates. The drawers are fitted with locks (no key is supplied, but a suitable replacement should be easily obtainable if required). The top drawer sits between the pull out rails. The bureau bookcase has an overall height of 81" (206cm), a base bureau height of 41" (104cm), an overall width of 37.5" (96cm), a bookcase depth of 9" (23cm) and a bureau depth of 18.5" (47cm). This lovely large vintage mahogany bureau bookcase remains in very good solid condition with only very minor surface markings commensurate with age and usage, including a few minor indentations and marks to the finish. One of the drawer handles has been replaced at some point with a similar one and one of the mouldings above a pigeon hole is missing.
